Bishopsteignton - Rest and Refreshment
Bishopsteignton is the perfect spot for those seeking a break from the stresses and strains of city life. Whist city breaks have become a niche holiday market of their own and activity holidays, such as a hiking weekend in the Peak District or a surfing weekend in Cornwall, are ever popular, the simplicity of taking a short holiday in a quintessentially English village is a vastly underrated pleasure.
This small village, nestled in between Teignmouth and Newton Abbot, is fully equipped with all the services and facilities you need for a pleasant stay along the Devonshire Coast.
You have two main options as far as accommodation is concerned. The Teign Villa Bed and Breakfast is a tiny establishment with just two double rooms - one with a river view and one with a country view. The rooms are stylish and comfortable and breakfast will be made to your individual specifications and dietary requirements. You are sure to receive a very warm welcome from the owners, too. Your second choice comes in the form of the village public house - The Cockhaven Manor. Here you will find a selection of cosy bedrooms, a good range of English ales on tap and plenty of freshly prepared, classic British dishes, available at lunch and dinner. As both businesses are very small it is worth phoning ahead to book. A deposit may be required. If you find yourself making several deposits prior to departure, as well as spending in advance on train tickets or other forms of transportation, take out a cheap travel insurance policy online from a company such as Go Travel in order to protect yourself in case of unforeseen cancellations.
The Old Walls Vineyard Tea Room is a great place to go following an afternoon of wandering the Devonshire countryside. Indulge in a traditional cream tea or sit back and relax with a glass of wine from their extensive, specialist selection and while away the early hours of evening.
For top quality dining head to The Bishop John de Grandisson Inn. This country pub has a separate restaurant where you can select from a delectable range of home cooked dishes for your evening meal, Tuesdays to Sundays. Lunch is also served from Wednesdays to Saturdays, 12 - 2pm. The traditional Sunday roasts here are famous throughout the area so booking in advance is highly advisable.
